To prevent a sock from slipping or rubbing inside your shoe, the size and fit must be right: socks that are too big crease and can quickly lead to blisters on long working days, whilst those that are too small constrict the foot and are more likely to rub through at the toes and heel. When choosing socks, simply go by your normal everyday shoe size.

The choice of materials used for work socks determines their exact properties.
Cotton work socks:

If you sweat heavily, you should opt for breathable woollen work socks, which wick away sweat and thus play a key role in keeping you comfortable. Socks that have been treated to combat odour-causing bacteria are also suitable for people with sweaty feet.
Ordinary everyday socks are significantly thinner and do not have reinforced padding. When worn in sturdy safety footwear, this can quickly lead to painful pressure points and blisters on the heels and toes. Specialised work socks are considerably more durable, feature extra padding in high-stress areas and offer a high level of comfort when working in demanding conditions.
That depends entirely on the material:
- Work socks made from a cotton blend can be washed easily at 40–60°C and are also suitable for the tumble dryer.
- Socks with a high wool content or special thermal functional fibres, on the other hand, should be washed more gently at a maximum of 30°C and preferably left to air-dry. This will help to preserve their elastic fit and shock-absorbing padding in the long term.
